Industrial Visit to Akshaya Patra

To enhance the practical knowledge of the employees, and stimulation, and to have an overview of the activity related to operations, Futuristic Labs organized an industrial visit to Akshaya Patra Foundation, Hyderabad on 27th August 2022. The Akshaya Patra Foundation is an NGO in India headquartered in Bangalore. It is a non-profit organization that runs School Lunch Programme across India. It strives to eliminate classroom hunger by implementing the Mid-Day Meal Scheme in government and government-aided schools. It also aims at countering malnutrition and supporting the right to education for socio-economically disadvantaged children. The Hyderabad office is at Kokapet, Rangareddy district.

Futuristic Labs’ Visit to the Facility

The visit began with an introductory session conducted by Suneel who provided the following information about Akshaya Patra Foundation:

  • An insight into the historical background of the Akshaya Patra Foundation.

  • Technicalities of the Quality Standards followed by Akshaya Patra Foundation.

  • Brief information about various awards and recognitions.

The teams were escorted to the kitchen where the mid-day meals were prepared. Unlike its other kitchens, this one was a one-floor operation with considerable manual intervention. There was large machinery with as much as 600L capacity (for rice) and 1200L capacity (for Sambar). The kitchen was automated by up to 80%.

The team witnessed a huge kitchen that operates every day, serving food to millions of underprivileged kids. The team observed how effectively and efficiently the kitchen works on a huge scale. It not only eliminates the hunger of millions of kids every day but also helps them with their education, well-being, and development of the society as a whole. Akshaya Patra provides us with an excellent example of ways to use technology and human skills for effective production and supply chains without wastage and unnecessary use of non-renewable resources. It makes one think of alternate ways of doing work and contributing to the development of society.
